Many members of the ocean modelling community use bathymetry data compilations as input to models that range from large-scale ocean circulation to nearshore wave transformation. Creating quality bathymetry compilations at multiple scales is not an easy task, requiring specialist skill and resources that many users of bathymetry data may not have. Thus the ocean modelling community has been limited to using existing bathymetry compilation products that lack spatial resolution required. The GMRT-AusSeabed platform aims to empower the user to build custom bathymetry compilations to meet specific needs. Based on a repository of bathymetry data hosted by the AusSeabed marine data portal, users can standardise datums, customise grid resolutions, and assess data quality all from their own device. In this presentation, we demonstrate the functionality of the prototype platform and the user experience one can expect, using a case study from the Bass Strait region. Future operationalisation of the platform will see it tap into the wealth of national bathymetry data available on the AusSeabed Data Portal to support broader application. The GMRT-AusSeabed project was a collaboration led by Geoscience Australia with co-investment from the Bureau of Meteorology, Deakin University, James Cook University, Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, CSIRO, the Australian Antarctic Division and the NCRIS-funded Australian Research Data Commons.
