Biography:

Dr Sarah Crowe is a Sydney-based ophthalmologist. She earned her DPhil in Molecular Biology from Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar, obtained her medical degree from University of Toronto Canada and her ophthalmology training in Sydney. She witnessed the massive burden of uncorrected refractive error while working in the Pacific Islands and has dedicated herself to helping address this problem.

Abstract:

This film shows how the OOXii Vision Kit is being used in remote and low resource communities to detect uncorrected refractive error and make glasses more accessible. Central to the Kit is the OOXii Testing Wheel, a durable and portable modified phoropter which simplifies subjective refraction so that it is quick and easy to learn and perform. Customised glasses are then assembled and dispensed on the spot.

The film shows the Kit ing use, highlighting the steps involved and providing insights and feedback from eye health workers in the field.
