Along with a programme of eminent speakers from the judiciary and the profession, leaders in research, and specialists in mental health to discuss a range of critical topics, the conference dinner will feature internationally acclaimed playwright, Suzie Miller.
Suzie Miller is an Australian international playwright, screenwriter, and novelist. She practised human rights law before writing full time and is currently developing major projects across the UK, USA and Australia in theatre, literature and screen.
Her plays have been in 40 productions around the world, winning multiple prestigious awards, including the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Play 2023 for her outstanding Prima Facie.
In April this year the Judicial College of Victoria held a film screening of Prima Facie and a post-screening program featured Suzie Miller in conversation with the Hon. Marcia Neave AO, the Hon. Jennifer Coate AO, and the Hon. Justice John Champion.
Feedback on Prima Facie included: ‘An excellent example of a work of art challenging community assumptions and generating discussion and greater understanding of very complex themes’. And ‘It was inspiring to see art’s impact on the law and to hear from Suzie and the panel on these important issues’.
The AIJA’s Dinner will be a special opportunity for members of the judiciary, the profession, government, academia to gather together and hear from a playwright whose work, Prima Facie was described by Australian Book Review as ‘one of Australia’s most celebrated literary exports of recent years’.
Tickets to the AIJA Dinner are sold separately for $185 each and the event is also open to those not attending the AIJA conference.
