Stephen Warne was admitted more than 25 years ago and has been at the Victorian Bar for 16 years. When asked at parties what area of law he does, he says ‘naughty lawyers’, a practice which spans professional regulation and external intervention, disputes between lawyers and clients about negligence and costs, professional indemnity insurance disputes, and professional discipline. He regularly assists members of the Law Institute of Victoria on referral from its Ethics Department. He publishes the Australian Professional Liability Blog though more often these days posts to his Twitter account @stephenwarne. He has advised lawyers in every Australian state and territory and in Fiji and has given advice to regulators in South Australia and Queensland.
