Dr Rachael Burgin is a Senior Lecturer in Criminal Justice at Swinburne Law School and the CEO of Rape and Sexual Assault Research and Advocacy (RASARA). She recently completed a review of the AFP and ACT Policing response to sexual offences, identifying reasons for the high rate of attrition in the ACT. She is leading the development of child and young person-focused family violence risk assessment tools, to build on and sit alongside the Victorian Government’s Multi-Agency Risk Assessment and Management (MARAM) Framework. She is co-investigator on an ARC Discovery Project to identify systemic interventions into intimate partner financial abuse. In her work at RASARA, she has advocated for better legal responses to sexual violence, including the introduction of affirmative standards of sexual consent. In 2023 she was an invited representative on the National Roundtable on Online Dating Safety, convened by the Australian Government.
