Dr. Claire Peterson is an Associate Consultant and Glaucoma Fellow at the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC). She obtained her MBBS from King’s College London and worked at the Royal Free Hospital before pursuing ophthalmology training at SNEC. She and holds specialist qualifications from the National University of Singapore and the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, and was awarded the Harcourt Medal for achieving the highest global score in the FRCOphth Oral examinations.
Dr Peterson is passionate about Global Ophthalmology and serves on SNEC’s Global Ophthalmology Committee as the Leadership and Academic Development Lead. She has participated in cataract outreach programs in Myanmar, India, and Nepal, and will be leading a multidisciplinary team to Nepal to focus on refractive error screening, training and cataract surgery this March. She is also actively involved in resident cataract surgery training at SNEC, particularly in small incision cataract surgery.
Dr Peterson has also received multiple awards for clinical excellence and education, including the SingHealth Health Quality Star and Gold Award, SingHealth Outstanding Resident Award and SNEC Young Educator Award.
Beyond clinical work, Dr. Peterson is the Singapore Young Ophthalmologist Chair and also serves on the APAO YO Standing Committee and the AAO YO Editorial Board. She has played a key role in organizing the Global Young Ophthalmologist Summits in Singapore (2023) and Taiwan (2024), and is a frequent speaker at international meetings. Her contributions have been recognized with the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology Rising Star Award (2023) and the Richard Fan Gold Medal (2025).
