Dr. Alma is from Fiji and currently works as a teaching ophthalmologist at the Pacific Eye Institute. Prior to joining PEI, she worked as a general ophthalmologist for the Fiji ministry of health for 15 years. She has special interest in diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma. She graduated with her master’s in medicine in Ophthalmology from the Fiji National University and received her training in ophthalmology at the Pacific Eye Institute. Currently serving in her 2nd term as PacEYES President, Dr. Alma is passionate about advocating for eye health workers and her colleagues in the Pacific. She enjoys engaging in collaborative efforts with eye health organizations and institutions to address eye health inequality in the region. Dr Alma also has a passion for teaching and finds joy in working with trainees during their training in ophthalmology so they can better serve their people in eye health. She is a proud mother to beautiful twin daughters.
