Born in 1965 in Kathmandu Nepal, Dr. Manoj Sharma had completed his basic medical school from the former Soviet Union in 1993(currently L’viv, Ukraine). He did his Masters training in ophthalmology from Tribhuwan University in Kathmandu in 1999 and Fellowship in Cornea and anterior surface diseases from UCLA, CA, USA in 2002. 

 He worked in a high-volume cataract surgery center, Lumbini Eye Institute, as an Associate Professor under Nepal Academy of Medical sciences for around 15 years followed by 2 years’ work in BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences as an additional Professor.  

He is also a SICS trainer and has trained a significant no. of national and international ophthalmologists from the US, Europe and Australia, in Nepal, Timor Leste, Tibet, and Cambodia; also had trained SICS to the Residents in Minnesota university in Minnesota. 

He has several academic publications and book chapters related to comprehensive ophthalmology, his sub-specialty and teleophthalmology. 

During his 11 years Eye care work for ETEP under RACS, Melbourne in Timor Leste(TL), he was awarded with Ordem de Timor Leste Grau Colar, the highest Presidential Award,  by current  Honorable President Prof. Ramos Horta in 2023 for his outstanding work in eye care,  in academic and clinical areas; infrastructure and capacity building in TL. His novel work in TL was also recognized with Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Plaque Award.   

Currently, he is working as a consultant ophthalmologist for MoH in Apia, Samoa.  

He has special interest in exploring spiritualism; exploring meditation for physical, mental, social and spiritual well-being.  

He has a wife and one son.
