Kate Eastman AM SC
Kate Eastman AM SC practices in human rights, discrimination, sexual harassment, employment and public law. Between 2019 – 2023, she was Counsel Assisting the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability, which considered the issues of capacity and consent for people with disability. In September 2023, she was appointed a Commissioner with the NSW Law Reform Commission. Kate also has taught human rights and international law at a number of Australia universities and in a number of international programs. In 2021, she was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to the law, to human rights, and to professional organisations. In 2022 she was awarded a Doctor of Laws (Honoris causa), University of Technology; the President’s Award, Law Council of Australia for a significant contribution to the legal profession; and the Australian Women Lawyers Award for long term leadership and commitment in the support and advancement of women in the legal profession.
