15th Australasian Environmental Isotope Conference 2022
14 – 16 November 2022
Dear Australian-New Zealand isotope community,
Please note that we have changed the date for the upcoming AEIC. Holding the conference in November will maximise the likelihood that our New Zealand and Western Australia colleagues will be able to join, minimise the risk of hitting a winter COVID resurgence, and give our beautiful Northern Rivers community more time to recover from the catastrophic flooding that is still devastating the region.
The AEIC historically brings together a diverse group of scientists to ‘talk isotopes (and everything else)’ for three days. We are committed to continuing this legacy through an in-person conference this coming year. Thanks to on-going support from Discover NSW and our industry sponsors we can promise you an event that is relatively affordable (particularly for students) and enjoyable (good food and interesting post-conference field trips). But it’s really the community – you! – that creates a successful scientific conference. We hope you will all be able to join us, both physically and intellectually, for the 15th iteration of the AEIC this November in Ballina, New South Wales.
Please spread the word to your isotope-curious collaborators, keen students, and new colleagues!
Note for those in New Zealand: after discussing with Simon Stewart and Alice Hill we agreed that it would be most beneficial for our community to hold the Stable Isotope Network New Zealand (SINNZ) huis on alternating years to the AEIC. We hope you can join us this year to AEIC to get to know (or reconnect with) our Australian counterparts, and then come together for the SINNZ hui in Nelson next summer.
Sincerely,
Naomi Wells
Virtual attendance
We recognise that travel is not possible for everyone. Please get in touch with the organisers as soon as possible if you fall into this category. We will hold a small number of spots available for virtual presentations. These slots will be allocated based on need and merit. Registration cost: TBD.
Contingency plans
In the event that trans-Tasman travel restrictions are in place this November the event will still go ahead**. Simon Stewart and Alice Hill will help us run a New Zealand ‘satellite’ event in Nelson so that we can still all get some of the in-person value from the conference, while still sharing our science across the border. We will make this call by the end of August 2022. Beyond this we will work with delegates who may have to make a last-minute switch to virtual attendance due to COVID travel restrictions.
**Yes, really
COVID prevention measures
The in-person event will operate under state and national COVID guidelines. Regardless of specific policies around this November, the Riverside Convention Centre is set up to ensure we will have plenty of space and good ventilation. We expect that all delegates are vaccinated.
Climate change
We are working to minimise the carbon footprint of this conference. This includes through sourcing local, vegetarian food, selecting ‘walkable’ accommodation-conference-dinner venues, helping to organise airport carpools, and running a ‘paper free’ conference. We welcome any and all volunteers who would like to work with us to help minimise our environmental footprint!

Other advertising opportunities
The following advertising options are available to reinforce other sponsorship packages or as individual items. For example, an advertisement in the pocket program is a fantastic way to get additional exposure, promote your exhibition stand location and keep your name in front of delegates during the symposium.
Opportunities
In the interest of minimising our environmental footprint, AEIC2021 is aiming to avoid unnecessary inserts. We will only be accepting ‘useful’ branded collateral such as pads and pens, memory sticks, etc. Existing sponsors are invited to supply these items for delegates at no additional charge. Non-Sponsors can purchase this option for $1,000 per item in addition to supplying the collateral.
